I just thought i'd share my latest model railroad car.

This past Monday i picked up my long awaited SZD WLABm sleeping car. Now, this is a beautiful model, a really interesting piece of Swedish rail history.

BUT there are a few things that bother me. For one, the USSR crest is a decal, which makes it flat, when in real life (as far as i know) it was a metal relief that was bolted to the cars side. So it should actually stick out a bit. And second, the colour behind the crest (both on the decal and on the model itself) is darker than it should be, as it should be the same shade as the rest of the car. That also applies to the numbers and letters right below the crest.

I do like the fully readable destination signs you get in the parts bag, or goody bag as we call it:

The ironic thing with the previously mentioned errors is that the manufacturer who made this car on the order of NMJ, Tillig, have actually made fully accurate models of these cars in the past. Oh well...

Nice model, Oscar! :) I guess almost all the guys here had a PIKO model HO scale DDR-made, having very good memories about that.
You know, if we are talking about Soviet times - such cars were rather rare, used only on International routes. So, I guess almost none of us has own memories on the point. For sure I can say that for the domestic routes there were metallic reliefs often simply painted in silver metallic. Colour printings (not reliefs) were on suburban trains. Sure, the lettering under the armors were on the same colour, just being painted on the car's side. But these are just memories, which may not be correct. :)
I did not understand - do you need any assistance with that? Some links on Russian sites of railway fans maybe?

Thanks, Oleg. :)
I am infact thinking about buying some wide profile Ammendorf cars in the future. As the difference in track gauge in H0 scale is only 1mm (which no maufacturer produces as far as i know) they roll on the same track.

Yeah, they were built to fit the standard European loading gauge, and were used on routes to Stockholm, Oslo, Paris, Berlin, etc. I do know that some of these are still in use actually, on routes to Prague amongst other cities.

One route that the manufacturer has listed for these cars, but that seems a bit odd to me, is Brussels-Beijing.

I have never seen these cars in real life, i am basing my comments purely on pictures. From what i can see there however they do support what you've written.

That would be nice as i have a large interest in the Russian/Soviet railways. Then maybe i could also get an accurate answer to when these cars stopped going to Stockholm.

As for the texts, I'm afraid I won't much of help as I do not understand a half of the words of those railways' fans. :D
