1972/1974 BEA + BOAC = British AirwaysBritish European Airways Corporation (BEA) was incorporated as a State enterprise in August 1946, and since its foundation has become the biggest operator of air services in Europe. Route network extends to all major cities of Europe plus points in the Middle East. More than one-third of BEA's effort goes into UK domestic operations. A large part of the airline's business is made up of tourist-class services generated by an elaborate promotional fare-structure. Almost all international services are operated under commercial agreements with European carriers. Main base is at Heathrow Airport. Major reorganisational changes in the group structure of BEA were announced on March 12. The BEA Group now consists of ten separate operating units as follows: BEA Mainline; BEA Super One- Eleven Division; Scottish Airways Division; Channel Islands Airways Division; British Air Services Limited; BEA Travel Sales Division; BEA Cargo Division; BEA Airtours Ltd; BEA Helicopters Ltd; and Sovereign Group Hotels Ltd.

British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) was established as a corporation in 1939 to acquire and merge the undertakings of Imperial Airways (founded in 1924) and British Airways. BOAC began operations on April 1, 1940, maintaining essential wartime air services. Bevenue operations began on April 1, 1946, and the airline was responsible for all British flag services to the USA, Middle East and Commonwealth. In 1949 it took over BSAA (British South American Airways Corporation), which was wound up. In May 1952 the airline introduced the world's first commercial jet services, with the Comet 1; the Comet 4 was introduced in 1958, beating the introduction of the Boeing 707 by several weeks. BOAC's operations have steadily expanded until today's route network is one of the world's largest, linking Britain with every continent. The airline has two round-the-world services —via the North Pacific and Japan and via the South Pacific and Australia. A Polar Service to Japan was introduced in May 1969 and operation of a trans- Siberian route to Japan via Moscow began in 1970. The airline operates a two-type jet fleet of VC10s and 707s, and is the largest European customer for the 747, which was introduced on the Atlantic routes in April 1971. Associated, through BOAC Associated Companies Ltd, are various worldwide hotel activities and the following airlines: Air Mauritius, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Gulf Aviation and its subsidiary Aircraft Services (Gulf), Malaysia-Singapore Air- lines, New Hebrides Airways and THY Turkish Airlines.

British Airways (BA/BAW, код Боинга 36)British Airways formally began operations on April 1, 1974, following a merger in September 1972 of a number of state companies which included BOAC, BEA, BEA Helicopters, BEA Air- tours, Northeast Airlines and Cambrian Airways. The airline is organised into seven operating divisions (detailed below), each with its own commercial and marketing integrity and all responsible to the managing director of British Airways. The direction of finance, planning, management services, personnel, legal, safety and public relations matters
is centralised. There are two other sections, British Airways Travel Division
(BATL), responsible for UK passenger
product sales, and British Airways Cargo-UK, which handles cargo and cargo sales in the UK on behalf of the
operating divisions. British Airways has
more than 240 aircraft and helicopters
in service or on order. It is one of the world's biggest carriers of international air traffic and claims the largest and most comprehensive network of routes and services.
The seven operating divisions of British Airways are as follows:
European Division, previously the British European Airways Corporation;
Overseas Division, previously the British Overseas Airways Corporation and, more recently, the BOAC Division of British Airways.
Regional Division comprises what was British Air Services (operating as Northeast Airlines, Cambrian Airways and Airways Engineering) and the Scottish Airways and Channel Islands Airways divisions of BEA.
British Airways Helicopters Ltd (previously BEA Helicopters) was formed in May 1964 as a wholly owned subsidiary of BEA.
British Airways Associated Companies Ltd (previously BOAC Associated Companies)
British Airways Engine Overhaul Ltd (previously BOAC Engine Overhaul) is responsible for engine overhauls for British Airways and a number of other airlines under contract. (Flight Int-l 1975)
